NEW DIVISIONAL COMMANDER FOR DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY POLICE

Police Scotland has a new Divisional Commander in V Division, Dumfries and Galloway, following the retirement after 30 years of Chief Superintendent Mike Leslie.

The new man at the helm is Chief Superintendent Gary Ritchie who moves to the Division from Support and Service Delivery in Edinburgh. Mr Ritchie has 23 years service and has worked in operational roles in North Ayrshire, Paisley and Glasgow. He said this week “I am delighted to be taking charge here in Dumfries and Galloway in what has consistently been one of the best performing Divisions in Scotland and I’m looking forward to the challenge of maintaining this high standard. I have already been around some of the region visiting officers and staff and they are clearly committed to delivering the best service possible to the community. I hope to build on what is an excellent community policing model.

Other changes are also taking place in the division with the retirement of two other senior officers. Superintendent Steven Lowther, Operational Commander for the Division retires and will be replaced by Superintendent Irvine Watson. Irvine moves up from the post of Chief Inspector covering the Dumfries Sub Division. At Divisional Headquarters Superintendent Bill Sturgeon, Support and Service Delivery is retiring and will be replaced by Superintendent Graeme Galloway. The changes took effect from 7 March 2016.
