EWE Won’t Believe Your Eyes - Flock to The Show Sheep To Visit Dumfries and Galloway

In June 2023 The Royal Highland Show will welcome the Golden Shears, the world championships of sheep shearing to Scotland’s Agricultural flagship event.

To Celebrate the occasion the RHAS are launching a huge nationwide art trail of individually decorated fibreglass sheep, taking to the streets up and down Scotland including Dumfries and Galloway and maybe a few of our UK counterparts.

Local artist Pauline Paterson had the honor of painting one, Pauline said

“Belted Galloway cattle or “Belties” as they are more commonly known, are iconic to the Dumfries and Galloway area and are a regular sight in the fertile pastures of this lowland county. Sheep and belties are companion grazers, existing happily together and their different tastes of herbage varieties ensures, for the farmer, the most efficient use of the land.
I have lived in Dumfries and Galloway since 1986, am married to a local farmer and share his passion for preserving all that is good about this area, for future generations. Flock to the Show was the perfect vehicle to unite Belties with their sheep companions and celebrate both species.”

A Spokes person for RHAS stated “Golden Shears 2023 will see the best shearers and wool handlers from over 30 different countries descend on the Royal Highland Show to compete to be the World Champion. This is one of the biggest events in the shearing calendar and will be a tightly fought spectacular. Attracting the best competitors from North and South America, Africa, Europe and let’s not forget Australia and New Zealand.

The trail will see our individually decorated Flock to the Show Sculptures dotted across the country, popping up in over 100 different locations from farm shops to shopping centres and train stations to rural beauty spots!….waiting to be discovered and for everyone to enjoy!”
