Business Academy – Boosting your Accommodation Business  through Green Credentials

The Galloway Glens project ‘Business Academy’, in partnership with Business Gateway D&G, is continuing its popular series of training events aimed at different sectors of the local economy. The next event, on the 5th September, is called Boosting your Accommodation Business through Green Credentials and aims to show local accommodation providers what the benefits to their business can be of making eco-conscious choices and letting their guests hear the story behind that.

Speakers at the event will include Melanie Allen, who’s business ‘Nithbank Country Estate’ is the first and only B&B in the region with the Gold Award from Green Tourism, as well as having the Biosphere Certification Mark. She will talk about the benefits that joining these schemes has brought to her business. Marie McNulty from the GSA Biosphere will then touch further on the benefits of having your accommodation business sited in the Biosphere, and the benefits that their Certification Mark can bring.

If Melanie and Marie have convinced you that making small environmental changes makes good business sense, then we will have practical information from Alliance Local, a business wholesaler who can show you cost-effective and simple switches to make in the products you need.

Lastly, John King of Business Gateway D&G will cover more general business planning for accommodation providers, giving you a quick run-down of everything you need to know about Making Tax Digital and Accountancy software, as well as planning for financial success.

Helen Keron, Galloway Glens Education and Community Engagement Officer, said, “After the huge success of our first Accommodation event in January, we are excited to be able to offer our local providers even more information about how they can optimise their businesses, this time with an environmental twist. Thanks are due as ever to all our partners for their help in planning this event, including this time Councillor Pauline Drysdale.”

The event is being hosted at the Threave Garden Café from 6-8pm on the 5th September. Thanks to the Galloway Glens support from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are able to offer places at this training event for free. Book your place through [email protected]
