DRAGON PICKS NEWTON STEWART BUTTERFLY AND TOADSTOOL FOR TOP BUSINESS AWARD

Dumfries and Galloway based business The Butterfly and Toadstool has been hand-picked by Theo Paphitis in Small Business awards

Botanical jewellery designer Dee Leslie has been chosen as one of Theo Paphitis’s Small Business Sunday (#SBS) winners through his competition on Twitter!

Dee designs and hand-makes jewellery and accessories for her own brand The Butterfly and Toadstool, from her home studio in Newton Stewart. She uses nature as her inspiration and incorporates real plants, flowers and recycled materials into her designs.

The #SBS initiative was set up by former Dragons’ Den investor Theo Paphitis in 2010 to encourage small business owners around the UK to network with each other and to help micro businesses be seen and heard. Being only the fifth business from Dumfries and Galloway to be chosen in its first 8 years, the #SBS initiative has done just that for The Butterfly and Toadstool!

Dee told DGWGO Business News:

I was absolutely elated when I learned my business had been chosen as an #SBS winner! I’d tweeted Theo telling him about my handmade jewellery brand, my design process and love of nature. I take great pride and care in the plants and flowers that I grow for my eco jewellery pieces and as I hand-pick and carefully dry each plant too, I really do know the ‘roots’ of my work!”

Dee established The Butterfly and Toadstool in 2012 when she decided to take her designing and love of creating to the next level. Using her background in biological studies as her main inspiration she has grown her business from a tiny seed of thought to a fully flourishing, beautiful brand.
