Dumfries & Galloway Council To Exclude P&O From Region’s Green Freeport Bid

Dumfries and Galloway Council expresses its disgust at P&O Ferries sacking 800 U.K. staff without consultation with trade unions or the required 45 days’ notice; notes that employees were informed by video message and that P&O Ferries intend to replace these workers by agency workers on wages of £5.15 per hour, considerably lower than the legal minimum wage in the U.K.

The council therefore considers that P&O Ferries and its parent company DP World have no place in a Green Freeport bid which requires bidders to adhere to fair work practises including payment of the Real Living Wage, and therefore resolves to exclude P&O Ferries and its parent company DP World from its bid for Green Freeport status for the ports of Cairnryan.
