Partnership Gives Dumfries & Galloway Plumbing Students Practical Experience

A leading lead distributor in the UK, Associated Lead Mills (ALM), has donated a large amount of lead for practical lessons at Dumfries and Galloway College.

The donation represents a partnership between ALM and Dumfries and Galloway College aimed at giving Plumbing and Heating apprentices the opportunity to develop their practical skills whilst working in a safe environment.

With lead being an expensive material, the College has welcomed this donation from ALM. This agreement between ALM and Dumfries and Galloway College, has provided a maximum opportunity to the Plumbing and Heating apprentices – allowing them to develop an essential skill that will prepare them for their future career in industry.

This donation helps Dumfries and Galloway College’s priority of working with industry to ensure the local area has the skills and expertise it needs to thrive. The donation also constitutes a sustainable, fully recyclable, and economical solution for both parties involved.

Students and the College have expressed gratitude for the donation from ALM:

Liam Wilson, an apprentice with Kirk Tweedie Plumbing and Heating at Dumfries and Galloway College, said:

“It’s great to receive the lead from ALM.

“We are looking forward to using it to develop our skills.”

Scott Wilson, an apprentice with Derek Mitchell’s, added:

“It’s fantastic that ALM have donated this lead which will allow us to practice more and become better lead workers.” 

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“Equipping our apprentices with the full range of skills they need to succeed is vital to our mission at Dumfries and Galloway College and so we’re most thankful to ALM for this kind donation.

“We also look forward to working with them in the future and to developing a positive, productive, and long-lasting relationship with them.”
