Family run business Gretna Green Ltd beat off stiff competition at last night’s annual China Britain Business Council’s (CBBC) awards, taking home the coveted “China Welcome of the Year 2020”.

The China-Scotland Business Awards provide an opportunity to recognise Innovation, effort and the commitment of Scottish businesses who have worked hard over the year to forge business partnerships with China and deliver commercial success. In doing so, the awards also serve to showcase the best Scotland has to offer and to encourage other businesses and organisations to look to China as an opportunity.

This award sees the team at Gretna Green gain global recognition for their endless efforts in ensuring their international customers who visit the multi-award-winning attraction and hotel business, are catered for, offering a tailored approach to their audience.

Scotland’s only China-focused business awards were held this year on Thursday 30th January in the glamorous ballroom of Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel.  Recognising and celebrating achievements in trade and investment between Scotland and China, the event welcomed over 300 industry delegates from around the world and celebrated both Scotland’s national bard, Robert Burns and the Chinese New Year with a fusion of both cultures.

Isabel Rhodes, Commercial Director of Gretna Green Ltd, says of the win; “We are thrilled to win this award, it’s fantastic recognition for the efforts our team put in to ensure we are offering a worldclass service to all of our visitors. It is particularly exciting for Gretna Green to be recognised at an event like this, as it allows us to showcase all of the amazing work our team do and highlights what our business is doing to support both tourism and international trade within Scotland and the wider UK.”

Whether through the introduction of Mandarin services or amenities that Chinese visitors enjoy, the ‘China Welcome of the Year Award’ celebrates businesses that have gone above and beyond in welcoming Chinese visitors to Scotland and enhancing their experience while here. Winning this award, sponsored by the Scottish Confucius Institute for business and communications, saw Gretna Green beat-off competition from the likes of, Johnstone’s of Elgin, Laing’s, S-CITA and Wang Ping Travel Ltd.

This accolade is yet another exciting achievement for the Dumfries and Galloway based business, helping to further the reach and to share the unique story of Gretna Green and its cultural significance within the history of the UK and helping to put a spotlight on success in the South of Scotland.
