‘Never miss a moment in nature’ With Wildlifecam Ltd

WildlifeCam Ltd, held its inaugural event at National Trust Scotland’s Threave Nature Reserve, Castle Douglas on the 23rd of May, showcasing the latest equipment in wildlife observation.  The event was well attended, despite the weather by institutions such as Nature Scotland, Trustees for NTS and wildlife enthusiasts.

Cowan Scott, Founder and Managing Director, explained – ‘There is an interesting back story to the creation of WildlifeCam Ltd.

Some 10 years ago, Keith Kirk (ex. Countryside ranger with over 30 years of experience, professional wildlife photographer, journalist and naturalist) and I ran a small but unique tourism enterprise called NWT (Nocturnal Wildlife Tours). The idea came from my everyday involvement in working with thermal imaging and night vision equipment.

What we had started was unique and it wasn’t long before we attracted the interest from the media and we soon found ourselves being featured on BBC Countryfile with Anita Rani, ITV Countrywise with Liz Bonnin and The BBC One show with Miranda Krestovnikoff.  Seven national appearances in all if we include regional TV, almost of it filmed at NTS Threave Nature Reserve and the local surrounding area.

We would see all sorts of animals from hedgehogs and mice to red deer, badgers, foxes, hare, bats, roosting birds, you name it, to coin a phrase someone used..”It’s like Piccadilly Circus out here”.

The sheer exhilaration and excitement of seeing wildlife at night left an indelible mark on tour participants, and coupled with Keith’s knowledge, there was a story to tell for each animal we saw.

Hence, one of our key aims with WildlifeCam Ltd, is our desire to engage with people through our social media platforms (@wildlifecamltd on Instagram and Facebook) in order to share footage, stories and ideas.

We believe, the more we engage with the public and organisations such as the National Trust for Scotland, the more widely we hope to educate people on the benefits of using thermal imaging technology in animal research.

Thermal imaging technology has undoubtedly shed a light on otherwise unknown animal behaviour and it’s our mission to get the message across that everybody can experience this. You don’t have to wait until you see thermal footage of wildlife on BBC Springwatch, Autumn Watch etc., you can reproduce similar result through your own lens’.
