Oliver Mundell Visits ‘Gates’ Dumfries Factory

Local MSP Oliver Mundell recently visited the ‘Gates  Power Transmissions factory‘, located in Heathhall, Dumfries to see how the plant has become one of the most successful manufacturing businesses operating from Dumfries and Galloway.

Gates Power Transmissions established its Dumfries factory in 1992 and has since grown into the UK’s largest manufacturers of synchronous timing belts selling to both the automotive and industrial markets across the globe.

In recent years Gates have spent millions of pounds further advancing their technology, equipment and safety standards for their hardworking staff. Mr Mundell was given a tour of the facility in order to see these investments in action and meet some of the firms employees.

The visit, led by site manager Kevin Proudfoot, proved extremely positive for Mr Mundell who was impressed by the high standards the plant upholds towards not only the quantity and quality of the products they are generating but also their continuous commitment to giving back to the community through fundraising and charitable donations.

Commenting following the visit, Dumfriesshire MSP Oliver Mundell said:

Gates is an incredibly important local employer and their presence in Dumfries makes a real difference to the wider local economy. It was really useful to get a better understanding of their business in Dumfries and I was greatly impressed by the company’s commitment to the local community.

“With continued investment in the site very much hope the site continues its success in the future and continues to provide a strong example of the manufacturing potential we have in Dumfries.
