A fund designed to support sustainable development and local regeneration around Scotland has this week announced the first batch of successful projects to receive funding, which includes projects in Moffat and Lockerbie in Dumfries and Galloway.
Successful projects include
• £20,000 to support the creation of a nature walk and wildlife conservation area near Moffat
• £20,000 to manage watercourses and create hedgerows on our Applegirth Estate
• £18,650 to create themed educational walks at a farm in Spey Bay
• £15,900 to control invasive, non-native species in Spey Bay
• £8,600 to restore wildlife habitat across the Tay reedbeds
• £8,250 to plant fruit trees and native hedgerows to enhance local biodiversity nr Lockerbie
The Environmental Grants Programme was launched by Crown Estate Scotland last year, and forms part of a wider £750,000 fund aimed at supporting the development of community led projects.
Crown Estate Scotland manages just under half the foreshore in Scotland, as well as a number of rural estates. The Environment Grants Programme is open to Crown Estate Scotland tenants with projects which can deliver lasting environmental benefits.
• A total of £100,000 was made available, and the full sum has been awarded among several successful projects
• The successful applicants are a mixture of business, third sector, and individual tenants
Annie Breaden, Head of Policy for Crown Estate Scotland, said: “We are delighted to be able to follow through on our commitment to deliver this funding to successful applications from a wide range of our tenants.
“The quality and variety of the applications was outstanding, and we are already looking forward to seeing the environmental benefits that come about through the work of the successful applicants. This is also just the first step, and we continue to progress work on our community capacity grants programme, the results of which will be announced later in the year.”
A fund for non-tenants, called the Community Capacity Grants Programme, is being administered by Foundation Scotland and further announcements on that will be made in due course.
