On 22nd July 2019, Frank Sweeney Group Chief Executive of Cunninghame Housing Association visited Annan and presented a cheque for £1,000 to Annan Christmas Lights to assist with the cost of replacement lights.

Frank Sweeney Group Chief Executive commented “We are delighted to be able to award the Annan Christmas Lights Committee £1,000 to go towards the cost of replacing some of their wall lights for the town”

Annan Christmas Lights are delighted to accept this most generous donation from Cunninghame Housing Association which will certainly help us to ‘Light up Annan!’ this year. The Cunninghame Housing Association motto of ‘Making our Communities better places’ perfectly matches our own aims, and Cunninghame are a very welcome addition in terms of regenerating our town centre here in Annan.

Annan Christmas Lights are a not for profit organisation. Formed 4 years ago they have provided over £25,000 worth of new Christmas Lights for the High Street and hosted an annual switch on event where children can see Santa and receive a small free gift.

There is entertainment from local community groups and schools and a lantern parade.

This year they have to replace 5 wall lights as they are beyond repair. They also hope to add to the lights in the town with some more icicle lights.

The whole community will benefit from the lights being put up again this year. The group have worked closely with the town to give them the lights they have always wanted. A sense of civic pride is now showing again making Annan a nicer place to live because people have pride in it.

The group try and align the switch on event with Small Business Saturday, so the businesses get an extra boost of footfall as visitors do travel in to see the lights switched on. They also work with a number or other organisations so that they too can use the day for their own fundraising and raising their public profile

This has given us a tremendous boost and it’s a pleasure to welcome Cunninghame Housing Association to the Annan community.

Cunninghame Housing Association has a huge social housing development programme in place for Dumfries & Galloway, over the next three to five years, that will provide over 300 homes for rent.

They are also currently building homes in Annan & Lockerbie and all the properties will be available on the Dumfries & Galloway Common Homes Register.
