Call Out To Local Youth To Get Involved At The Devil’s Porridge Museum

The Devil’s Porridge Museum is run and led by its forty plus volunteers.  “We have an increasing number of younger volunteers” commented Judith Hewitt, Museum Manager, “and we have recently been shortlisted for an award as the Most Family Friendly Museum in the UK.  This seemed like the perfect time for us to think about how we integrate young people more into the Museum’s organisation.  We want young people to be as actively involved as possible and to have a voice.”

The first ever Youth Council was held on Monday 9th September and will be held monthly from now.  The meeting was well attended and Calum McDougall was nominated to represent young people’s issues at monthly meetings of the Museum’s Trustees.  “We are delighted to have Calum on board” continued Judith,  “He has been volunteering here for several months and is ready to take the lead on the issues that matter to young people.  Steven Bogle, our Access and Learning Officer has been doing a great job putting young people at the heart of the Museum and we all agree that Calum’s input will help take us to the next level.”

The next Youth Council meeting will be at 7pm on Thursday October 18th
