Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club Get Ready For Cyclathon Challenge

This April Dumfries Devorgilla Rotary Club are doing a Cyclathon Challenge for Prostate Buddies D&G. Their Ride for Prostate will be a static bike at Tesco, Cuckoo Bridge Dumfries where a group of cyclists comprising Dumfries Devorgilla, Dumfries Rotary Club and members of 710 Cycling Club will all take turns to try and cycle the distance from Tesco Dumfries to Tesco Stranraer and back. The 137 mile total distance is hoped to be completed over a 12 hour period by the cyclists starting at 7am on Saturday 1st April 2023.

All the money raised will be donated to Prostate Buddies D&G and Prostate Scotland. Prostate Buddies D&G are based in Dumfries and are a support group covering Dumfries and Galloway to help men who have recently been diagnosed with or are concerned about prostate disease or cancer. One in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. The Buddies group is manned entirely by volunteers who want to help other men come to terms with their diagnosis and support them through what happens next in terms of treatment and further support. The group is assisted by Prostate Scotland but their service to this region could not be carried out without generous donations received. More information on Prostate Buddies D&G can be found on their website at www.prostatebuddiesdandg.org.uk

The Rotary event is carried out in conjunction with Tesco and 710 Cycling Club. Dumfries Devorgilla President Peter Atkinson said “We are very pleased to be teaming up with Prostate Buddies D&G to assist in their valuable work of support & guidance. We very much hope the people of Dumfries will donate generously to our event”.

Donations can be made to the Cyclathon on the day at Tesco. Please come along to support the riders and donate to this worthwhile cause. The riders will be starting at 7am and their progress can be followed on facebook at www.facebook.com/DumfriesDevorgilla
