Easter Bonnet Competition Raises Funds For Cancer Charities

Carson expresses delight at support for cancer charities in Easter Bonnet competition

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson has expressed his delight at the support given to cancer charities for his Easter Bonnet competition.

The local MSP launched a competition earlier in the year to raise awareness of the work MacMillan Cancer do as well as raise greater awareness of Ovarian Cancer.

The competition was opened up to schools, businesses, community organisations and individuals across his constituency with a sum of £80 being raised, with Threave Rural donating the money for the Easter Eggs given as prizes.

Stewartry Lord Lieutenant Patsy Gilroy carried out the judging, with Mr Carson saying he didn’t envy her having to choose between such a high standard.

Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “I was keen to do my bit to support the wonderful work cancer charities do all year round and thought an Easter Bonnet competition would be a fun way of getting the community involved.
“As usual, the communities of Galloway and West Dumfries did not disappoint, showing their great spirit for the event and helping to raise money in the process.
“The standard was extremely high among businesses, youngsters and organisations who got involved so I didn’t envy the job of judging that Patsy Gilroy had to carry out.
“I would like to thank everyone who took part and for their generosity and congratulate the winners for their wonderful designs.”
Lord Lieutenant Patsy Gilroy added: “It was a delight to judge the Easter Bonnet competition, though I had a tough time given the extremely high standard.
“You could see the great thought that had gone into all the entries, showing what a creative bunch the communities across the region have in abundance.
“The Easter Bonnet competition was able to raise money for great causes as well as being able to have fun at the same time and I applaud everyone who took the time to enter.”
