Help Celebrate John’s SevenTREEth Birthday!

John Allison from Rhonehouse near Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway,  turns 70 this year and to celebrate, his friends and family have been crowdfunding to plant 70 trees in his name.

John is a retired social worker and gardener who now volunteers with the Food Train, his local village council, beach cleaning, and with Taliesin. John loves the environment and gives much of his time to improving biodiversity and natural spaces – even planting trees himself at the Rhonehouse village green. By donating to the crowdfunding, you’ll be supporting nature as well as celebrating a community champion.

“My dad has done so much for people over the years and it’s time for his community to say thank you. There’s nothing he loves more than being outdoors, working with others to make the world a bit better. More than anything for his birthday, we want him to know that his hard work in the community is appreciated” said one of his sons, Rory.

To plant a tree for John, donate £5 online here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/treesforjohn

The donations will then be given in John’s name to local and national charities. The target is £350 so every contribution will make a difference to John and to nature.

“What a fitting birthday present!” said John’s friends Esther and Warren. Another friend Ratnadevi said “Those trees will be a fitting legacy, among so much else you have given the world”
“I’m inspired by how much my dad does for the community and for nature. I really hope we can show him how much he’s appreciated” added Rory.

As well as donating funds to charities to plant trees, the hope is to plant as many native trees as possible in the area. Rhonehouse and Taliesin have already kindly agreed to give space but if you have any suggestions on suitable locations, please contact Rory Fairweather at [email protected]
