A local charity which helps people with hearing loss has announced the long-awaited restart of their extremely popular hearing aid care & maintenance clinics after over a year of closure due to Covid 19 restrictions.
Dumfries & Galloway Hard of Hearing Group run several clinics in various locations across the region to make sure hearing aids are working properly, are being worn properly and that people with hearing loss have access to advice and support. In the year prior to lockdown the group serviced over 9000 hearing aids and helped over 5000 people with hearing loss.
Ann Ferguson, Chairwoman said “We are delighted that the lifting of more restrictions allows us to open up again after such a long period of shut down “She added, “the way we are running the clinics will feel a bit different because we have put in place stringent safety measures to protect the people who use our services and the 50 plus volunteers who deliver the services.”
Rather than operating drop-in clinics the charity now requires service users to make appointments.
Sian Woolner, Service Coordinator clarified “in order to operate within required safety procedures we need to limit the number of people visiting a clinic at any one time”. She stressed that this should not put people off “there will be lots of hearing aid wearers who have not been able to get help for over a year so their hearing aids may not be working very efficiently, if at all ”.
