Living VE Day Memorial Created At Annan.

ROYAL BURGH of ANNAN Community Council have created a lasting, special memorial to remember the joy of VE DAY 8th May 1925.

During the UK wide celebrationsn of the 80th Anniversary. The amazing quantity of 500 packets of Poppy Seeds donated by Poppy Scotland to Annan Community Council were sowed,  to create the inaugural first of many Dumfries & Galloway Regional POPPY PATHWAYS

The Annan Community Council would like to acknowledge the encouragement and support of David Walker Regional Fundraiser of Poppy Scotland and Dobie Seeds of Devon for their enormous supply of Poppy seeds and encouragement to Sow our local POPPY PATHWAY at the entrance Pillars to the Royal Burgh of Annan.

We at ACC hope other Dumfries & Galloway Regional Towns and Villages establish their own POPPY PATHWAY at the approach way to their own communities, in celebration of the ending of World Wars.

Sowing the 1,000’s of Poppy Seeds to create our POPPY PATHWAY. We had a group of Annan Community councillors lead by President Allan Weild. Also supporting the Poppy Sowing was Deputy Lord Lieutenant Hardip Atwal and Archie Dryburgh MBE the Forces Champion for Dumfries & Galloway council.

All enjoyed the unusual afternoon Sowing Poppy seeds in the Sun.

This new permanent memorial of Poppies situated at the entrance to Annan town, is available to all Towns and Villages located within our Dumfries & Galloway Region. The poppies will brighten up our individual entrances and exits of each community by flowering during the months of June to September.

If any D&G Region Community Council group or any local charity group would like more information please send a picture of your own individual Town or Village entrance name sign to Community Council member James Ferguson of Annan.
