Sam Is Kirkcudbright Rotary Club Young Mechanic Of The Year

Kirkcudbright Academy is very fortunate to have, as one of its facilities, a small garage area for training and education. In the past, this was supported by a number of teaching hours from Dumfries College that allowed the Academy to offer a level 4 ‘Skills for Work’ course in Automotive Engineering.
Kirkcudbright Rotary club has very close ties with the school and many of our annual school prizes and awards are given under the Rotary banner. This has included an award for “The Young Mechanic of the Year”, chosen from the students on the automotive course.
Additionally, one of the Rotary club’s honorary members, Derek Smith, has supported the course with his knowledge and his enthusiasm……… and his vintage cars!
Sam Forsyth was chosen as this year’s recipient of the ‘Young Mechanic’ prize. He was chosen for his practical ability, coupled with business understanding, enthusiasm and the desire to succeed. This year Derek has further supported the prize by awarding, Sam with a high quality toolkit, funded by Kirkcudbright Rotary club, to start him on his mechanical pathway.
