Award-winning Norwegian Cellist Maja Bugge To Appear in Dumfries

Award-winning Norwegian cellist Maja Bugge makes a “special” appearance in Dumfries this month.

The celebrated musician and composer who is based in Lancaster said: She said: “I am particularly excited about coming to Dumfries. The landscapes and sounds and nature of Dumfries and Galloway really reminds me of my Norwegian hometown and the strong historical connection between Norway and Dumfries makes this a special gig.”

Maja has more then 20 years of professional experience working both as a solo artist and in collaboration with organisations such as Lancaster Arts, the National Theatre Oslo and ULTIMA festival Oslo.

In 2012 she released her first solo CD Shelter. She has won several prizes and scholarships for her work including The Cultural Rucksack Norway´s best performance and artist in residence at the Festival of The North of Norway.  She is currently a Northern Line artist for Jazz North.

Maja has a particular interest in devising work with and for children and young people, and also teaches the cello to pupils of all ages and abilities.

The concert takes place at The Stove, High Street, Dumfries, on Saturday 24 February at 7.30pm.
