BIRCHVALE PLAYERS TO BUY DALBEATTIE THEATRE FOR £1

Council agrees to sell Dalbeattie theatre to Birchvale Players

The Council’s Policy and Resources Committee (18 November 2014) has agreed to dispose of Birchvale Theatre in Dalbeattie to the Birchvale Players for £1.

The Birchvale Players have leased the building since 1980 and have carried out a considerable amount of work to maintain and improve it. The theatre has a capacity of 78 and hosts an annual programme, including drama, a pantomime, and films. The club has 20 adult members, 28 junior members, and 150 patrons.

Councillor Ronnie Nicholson, chairman of the Policy and Resources Committee, said, “Being an inclusive council is one of our key priorities. We want to empower communities to make the most of their assets. The activities of the Birchvale Players fit well with our regional cultural strategy and contribute significantly to Dalbeattie, making a positive impact in the arts. I’m very pleased that this very successful theatre company will be able to continue to perform at this venue.”
