EXPLORE NEW PHOTOGRAPHY AT GRACEFIELD IN MARCH

The first Sunday in March sees the opening of two new exhibitions at Gracefield in Dumfries with the Camera Club Annual Exhibition in Gallery 1 and the Jill Todd Photographic Award in Gallery 2.

Dumfries boasts one of the most successful Camera Clubs in the country and currently holds the title of UK Print Champions which they will defend against all comers later in 2016. This annual exhibition contains a huge variety of photography, mostly in small collections, from club members working at all levels in many different genre. Members will be on hand to chat about the work on show and share their photography experience on Saturday 5 and if you need help with any aspect of your camera bring it along with the handbook on 26 March for advice.

Over in Gallery 2, The Jill Todd Photographic Award aims to promote early careers in photography and is open to all photography graduates in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. This year the award has an open theme and includes work by Mhairi Law, Alan Knox, Mat Hay, Jill Quigley, Heather Yates, Sekai Machache, Sam Wood, Nic Rue and James Parker. The exhibition was first launched earlier in the year at Stills Gallery in Edinburgh. Alan Knox will be in the gallery to talk about his photographs and will also be joined by the founder of the JTPA, Barrie Todd, to introduce the exhibition (2.15pm).

Chair of Community and Customer Services, Councillor Tom McAughtrie , commented: “For anyone interested in contemporary photography, this is a must-see and as usual, we’ll no doubt be impressed by the local talent in the DCC, as well as the up-and-coming graduates at the start of their careers.”

Join us on Saturday 5th March 2-4pm for refreshments and a chance to chat to the exhibitors. The shows continue until 2 April, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm, with extra activities for all on Good Friday and Easter Saturday.
