Landmarks Exhibition Comes To Gracefield

Now in his eighties, Gordon enjoys taking inspiration from the buildings and landscape around his local area.  This show gives an opportunity to see how much has changed, or not changed, in our local environment, with old favourites like St Michaels church still very much as it has always been alongside other interesting buildings like Moat Brae, the house which inspired JM Barrie’s Peter Pan.

Gordon says of his work;

“I only started painting about 25 years ago while previously photography had been my main interest.  In 1987 I graduated in the Open University with BA in Arts and Social Sciences and two years later I went on to complete an Honours Degree.

Another of my interests is writing about History and I’ve been working on an update of James Urquharts’ book for schools on pictorial Dumfries and Galloway.  My Art Tutor is Sam Mullen and I also have support from his wife Sheila

I’ve recently been on an Icelandic cruise and I am currently working on a new set of drawing and painting inspired by my travels.”

Councillor Tom McAughtrie, chairman of the Council’s Communities Committee commented;

“It’s great to see our local artists still creating work with such enthusiasm – well done to Gordon for his reminder to look more closely at the familiar in a new light.”

Gordon is a member of the Dumfries and Galloway Fine Art Society where he regularly contributes to the annual exhibition and he has shown his work at the Hullabaloo Restaurant (Robert Burns Centre) with Frank O’Carroll.
