Meet, Eat And Get Inspired With The Rich Flavours Of Dumfries & Galloways Spring Fling

 

Award-winning dining during an evening with six leading artists at The Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel

There’s a chance to savour the full flavour of the recent Spring Fling open studios weekend by meeting and eating with leading artists at one of Dumfries and Galloway’s finest restaurants.
The event, at The Buccleuch & Queensberry Arms Hotel (BQA), Thornhill, on Saturday 27 June, will allow lovers of high quality art and fine food to discover more about the lives and inspirations of painters, photographers and other highly creative people.
Diners at Meet and Eat with Artists, which is being hosted in the hotel’s superbly restored mid-19th century function room, will spend the evening with six of those selected to take part in Scotland’s premier open studios art and craft event which took place in May.
Leah Black, Spring Fling Director, said: “The hotel is a real centre for the arts in Dumfries and Galloway, so it’s the ideal venue for art-lovers to spend a fascinating evening of excellent food and conversation with some really inspirational artists.
“Last month’s Spring Fling was a huge success and this is an opportunity to meet some of those who took part and discover more about their lives and their work.”
The artists taking part are:
• Kim Ayres – portrait photographer who creates epic fantasy scenes
• Anne Butler – painter renowned for her distinctively Scottish landscapes
• Christine Hester Smith – quirky ceramicist with a love of birds and animals
• Sarah Stewart – a print maker who who often uses the lost and found to create fresh art
• Katharine Wheeler – accomplished landscape and portrait painter
• Denise Zygadlo – multi-media artist who has created large, dramatic cloth hangings featuring photocopied images of her own body.
The BQA, and its chef Will Pottinger, are known for championing the best locally sourced produce and has a coveted AA Rosette for the quality of its food.
Alasdair Knight, who took over BQA two years ago, said: “We are really interested in championing the region and its arts, and working with Spring Fling is a great way to do that.
“We hope that people will enjoy a lovely, relaxed evening with some of the best cooking in Dumfries and Galloway and all in the company of some really fascinating artists.”
The hotel provides a showcase for several visual artists and also stages live events.
