RETURN TO SANCTUARY ’24 HOURS OF EXPERIMENTAL ART IN THE GALLOWAY FOREST’

1 a 1 a Sanctuary-Lights-to-Murrays-MonumentFind Sanctuary deep in a Scottish forest – a public arts event like no other, in the stunning landscape of the Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park.
Sanctuary offers a unique experience to visitors. It’s a chance to interact with the landscape in new ways through experimental works that explore sound, light and place. It features performance, light and sound installations and 24 hours of previously unheard music.
The Galloway Dark Skies Park is a specially designated area that is low in light pollution and Sanctuary, now in its third year, takes place within the park. Remote, beautiful and ‘electronically dark’, It is a sanctuary from both light pollution and worldwide connectedness.
Making a welcome return is The Dark Outside FM – a site-specific radio station curated by sound artist Stuart McLean. For 24 hours, The Dark Outside FM will be broadcasting previously unheard sound and music from artists across the world.
Full details of all artists and installations will be unveiled closer to the date.
What: Sanctuary – a public art event that brings together new work ranging from performance and light installations to sound works, video projections, radio transmissions, an International Year of Light talk, stargazing walks and the chance to chill out in The Dark Star Lounge.
Where: Murrays Monument, A712, Nr Newtown Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway, DG8 7BL.
When: Noon to noon 26th / 27th September
Why: Because there’s nothing else quite like it in the world – free, atmospheric, remote and beautiful.
Camping is available and there will be a foodstall on Sat 26th.
