Road policing officers are appealing for information following a fatal crash on the A714 between Newton Stewart and Wigtown.
Around 9.35am on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, police received a report of a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki S-Cross on the A714 near Newton Stewart.
Emergency services attended and a 65-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Suzuki, died at the scene. The male driver of the Suzuki, aged 72, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and the 34-year-old female driver of the Golf was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
The road was closed to allow for crash investigation to take place and has now reopened.
Sergeant Lindsey Tait said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has died at what is a very difficult time.
“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“If you were driving in the area at the time please check any dash-cam footage you have as any images captured could assist with our investigation.”
