A HOST OF EXCITING ACTS HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED FOR LOCKERBIE’S JAZZ AND BLUES PARTY

From 11am on Saturday 27th September the centre of Lockerbie will be transformed in an exhilarating musical showcase of jazz, blues, funk, soul, R&B, swing, bop, vocals and big band!

The hot sounds of the Lockerbie Jazz Festival can be heard on 3 stages for Take 5, the town’s one-of-a-kind music event. The programme boasts a stellar line-up of local and international acts, poised to deliver a relaxed afternoon of festivities. To top it off – admission is just £5 or free for the under 16s!

The acts confirmed to perform are:

Dom and the Ikos – a fantastically hot New Orleans funk and blues style band driven by killer piano player Dom Pipkin – taking time off from his regular gig with Paloma Faith and teaching Jonathan Ross to play the piano.

Kris Dollimore – is the guitar player with Scottish rock icons, Del Amitri, but he’s also one of Britain’s leading acoustic blues singers and guitarists, with a fabulous knowledge and deep respect for all the country blues traditions.

The Tom Gordon Septet playing Basie – the drummer with the BBC Big band front a new band playing the classic jazz by Count Basie

Dumfries Community Choir – the organiser says “probably going the biggest Choir in Scotland”

Getz Tribute Group – play music by the master of 50s and 60s cool jazz: Stan Getz

The Dumfries and Galloway Big Band – the debut performance of a big band created just last year

Deluxe Blues – driving, rocking blues band

StrumSum – guitar group

Singers Unlimited – classic jazz vocals from eight different singers

 

Plus specially assembled projects featuring young people from the DG area working alongside professional musicians:

The Moffat Young Piano Ensemble,  The Lockerbie Youth Guitar Group,  The Lockerbie Youth Choir, The DG Youth Jazz Group in association with the BBC Big Band.
