Rugby star Henry Pyrgos backs Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk

Scottish Rugby International and Glasgow Warriors player, Henry Pyrgos, has stepped out to add his support for Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walks, to urge people to get outdoors and make their mark for dementia at walks taking place across Scotland this September.

Thousands of people sign up to their local Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk each year helping to raise vital funds to support people living with dementia. This year the Dumfries Memory Walk will take place in the Dock Park on Sunday 23rd of September to help make sure nobody faces dementia alone.

Making his mark for the Alzheimer Scotland Memory Walk series, Henry Pyrgos, said: “I decided to support Alzheimer Scotland in honour of my Grandad who has been living with dementia now for a few years so it’s a cause close to my heart.

I think Memory Walks is a great initiative to get more people outdoors and walking together at some fantastic locations across Scotland during September to help put dementia on the map.
“Together we can help make people living with dementia and their families feel supported. Sign up to your local walk today and together we can all make our mark for dementia by increasing awareness of the condition and by raising vital funds.”
Rebecca Muir, Community Fundraiser for Dumfries & Galloway, said: “The Dumfries Memory Walk offers a great way for families to come together to make their mark for dementia whilst enjoying the beautiful surroundings of the Dock Park and Castledykes Park. We have fun family-friendly activities planned, and every penny raised will go towards our vision – to make sure nobody faces dementia alone across Dumfries & Galloway and the surrounding areas. Every step you take will help us make a big difference.”

Whether you stride, stroll or toddle, the Memory Walk is perfect for all ages and abilities with various lengths of routes across city parks and country walkways. There’s no reason why the entire family can’t make the event the perfect day as well as enjoying the outdoors. Sign up today at www.memorywalksscotland.org.

Dementia is the biggest health and social care challenge faced by society today. There are around 90,000 people living with dementia in Scotland and it is now estimated that 20,000 people will be diagnosed with the condition every year by 2020.
