APPEAL FOR WITNESSES AS ONE PERSON KILLED AND FOUR INJURED IN TRAGIC A74 ROAD CRASH NEAR GRETNA

FATAL ROAD CRASH – A74, GRETNA

A 48-year-old woman has died following a road crash on a slip road from the A74, near to Gretna services on Sunday 2 August 2015.
Around 1900 hours on Sunday 2 August, a female driver of a silver-coloured Volkswagen Touran vehicle travelling north-bound on the A74 appeared to lose control of the vehicle and proceeded down the embankment at the slip road of the A74 at Junction 22, Gretna. She died at the scene. All family members have still to be made aware.
Four occupants (three females aged 70, 43 and 21 and one 12 -year old boy) in the vehicle were also injured.
The 12 year old boy and the 70 year old woman have been seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
The slip-road was closed for a few hours whilst crash scene investigators examined the scene. Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.
Inspector Neil Hewitson, from Road Policing said, “I am appealing to any motorists who may have seen the silver-coloured Volkswagen Touran on the A74 prior to it exiting on to the slip road and perhaps noticed anything or who may have seen directly what happened. Please contact 101 with any information.”
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
