NEW AWARD LAUNCHED FOR EXCEPTIONAL ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

Join Dumfries and Galloway Council in celebrating exceptional architectural design throughout the region.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is using the Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design to launch its first Design Awards for the best designed buildings in the region.

The awards aim to recognise, promote and celebrate examples of exceptional design quality within both the urban and rural parts of the region.

Launching the awards, Councillor Colin Smyth, chairman of the Economy, Environment and Infrastructure Committee, said: “Dumfries and Galloway boasts a strong arts and design culture which the Council hopes to build on. These Design Awards will help to promote and encourage high quality design in buildings to complement the region’s beautiful scenic landscapes.”

All types of building projects are eligible, small or large , urban or rural, domestic or commercial.

All buildings entered must be within Dumfries and Galloway and have been completed/built in the period between 1 March 2014 and 1 March 2016.

There is no entry fee and anyone can make applications, with the agreement of the current property and/or landowner.

Applications must be received by 5pm on Monday 9 May 2016.

There are three separate categories to enter, however applications can be considered for more than one category or award:
• New build residential
• New build non-residential
• Works to existing buildings

The entries will be judged by a panel of independent experts in the summer after which there will be an Awards Ceremony.
