Since 2010 Leigh Riddell and Jenny Carson from Castle Douglas have been organising the annual ‘Benidorm Rovers’ charity fundraisers held at Auchenlarie Holiday Park near Gatehouse of Fleet. This year once again turned out to be as popular as ever, selling out with around 200 people attending, many for their Christmas work party nights
The successful event was organised by Leigh her husband Alan and Jenny once again, they choose different charities every year to support and they managed to raise £4000 on the night ( Friday 4th of December ) for Cancer Research UK and the Alexandra Unit at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary. Boots Pharmacy will add a further £500 to each charity, so a grand total of £5000 has been raised altogether this year.
The amazing Benidorm Rovers were once again the star attraction of the evening. Getting the crowd dancing from the word. Special thanks went to them this year as they donated their fee to the charities.
Castle Douglas musician and member of the famous Galloway Pipe Rockers ‘The Dangleberries’ Ian Fenwick kicked the night off nicely with his one man guitar covers act. There was also some festive themed games and a raffle to raise funds and Alan Riddell expertly auctioned a luxury holiday at Auchenlarie kindly donated by the Swalwell family which went for £700.
Jenny and Leigh
Leigh told DGWGO ” We are really humbled by the continuing support we get year on year that makes this night a success. It was a great feeling to look around and see everyone having an absolute ball on the night, well and truly in the Christmas spirit and to know we were making a great contribution to 2 charities at the same time.”
Including this years total, since 2010 Leigh and Jenny have raised over £25,000 for their chosen charities.
