Bogus HMRC Scammers Target Dumfries & Galloway

Bell Ogilvy Chartered Accountants, in Castle Douglas, are asking everyone to be aware of bogus HMRC fraudsters who are targeting the region.

A number of concerned individuals have already contacted Bell Ogilvy seeking reassurance after they were contacted from someone claiming to be from the HMRC and asking for payment.

The fraudster has been known to say that a lawsuit was being filed against the victim and that they must make an immediate payment

Partner, Lissy Gray of Bell Ogilvy told DGWGO:

” Please BE AWARE of BOGUS HMRC phonecalls from an 0161 telephone number. The fraudster behind the call may state that HMRC is filing a lawsuit against you, and that you must make an immediate payment.

Alternatively, they may ask you for financial and personal details. We have had a number of reports about these calls being made in the area today. Please do not give them any information

Bell Ogilvy posted the warning earlier today, on their Facebook Page, and comments made by other Facebook users are confirming that they too have received calls from an 0161 number.

Bell Ogilvy added a link, on their Facebook Page, to the HMRC website with information about what to do you if you are contacted by bogus HMRC fraudsters.
