Children’s Ward Room Honours Memory Of Lockerbie Disaster Family

A room in the Children’s Ward at DGRI has been named ‘Somerville Room’ – continuing an established tribute to a family who sadly lost their lives in the Lockerbie Disaster 30 years ago today.

The room is the third one to bear the name of the family from Lockerbie, after local donations following the disaster on 21 December 1988 saw a room at the former Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary named in their memory.

A spokeswoman for the Children’s Ward said: “The room was named after the family who very sadly lost their lives in the Lockerbie Disaster 30 years ago.

Staff on the Children’s Ward at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary have renamed a room within the ward ‘Somerville Room’ – continuing the memory of a family who sadly lost their lives in the Lockerbie Disaster

“We were keen to carry on the name, and so this renamed room at the new DGRI will be used as a place of peace and rest for the families of very ill children who are cared for in the Children’s Ward.

“The staff are honoured and thankful that this room has been an integral part of the ward, even when in the old DGRI.

“We are all very glad that on this day, and in the years to come, the Somerville family will be remembered.”

Grateful thanks are expressed to local business Sign Craft who donated the new sign.
