Council Facilities Across Dumfries & Galloway Start To Re-open

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Leisure and Customer Service Centres started to reopen on Monday 26 April 2021 and our Museums and Art galleries will start to reopen from Friday 30 April 2021.

Following the First Minster’s announcement on Tuesday 20 April, as all of mainland Scotland have moved to Level 3, we are delighted to confirm that our facilities across Dumfries and Galloway have started to reopen.

It’s been four long months since our venues were forced to close for the second time at the end of December due to COVID-19 and we can’t wait to welcome our customers back to our Leisure Facilities, Customers Service Centres and our exhibitions, heritage displays and cinema screenings.

Chair of Communities Committee Councillor Andy Ferguson said:
All our facilities have health and safety measures in place in line with national guidance to allow our customers and visitors to enjoy their visit to our facilities and to ensure you feel safe. There’s hand sanitiser for you to use within facilities, we would ask you where face coverings in circulation areas and the booking systems we have in place allow us to hold records for test and protect as well as control user numbers.
I would encourage our communities and visitors alike to book yourselves in for a Leisure activity or exhibition a go along to your local facility and enjoy yourself.”
In relation to our Leisure Facilities, we are delighted to confirm we have restarted our facilities on a phased approach, our fitness rooms and swimming pools have reopened for individual activity in line with the Scottish Government route map of reopening. Junior swimming club, junior club ice sports and Junior and adult individual club curling also recommenced on Monday 26 April 2021.

For our DG1 customers, we are pleased to confirm that DG1 has been selected as the host venue for the Scottish Parliamentary count. In order to facilitate the election count, DG1 will close to the public on Thursday 6 May 2021 and reopen on Tuesday 11 May 2021.
Our gymnastics coaching, swimming and ice sports lesson programmes and fitness classes will commence from Monday 17 May 2021 as part of our phased opening plans in line with the national guidance.
On Monday 26 April 2021, our Customer Service Centres also started to reopen, please visit Customer Service Centres (dumgal.gov.uk) for opening times and locations.
We have renewed all your books and you can return them to, and then borrow from, any Customer Service Centre. PC use is available by appointment, book in branch or telephone 01387 260196.
You can now apply for New National Entitlement Cards Online (NEC) at https://getyournec.scot/nec/ If you cannot apply online, please telephone 01387 260196 to make an appointment.
On Friday 30 April 2021, some of our Museums and Art Galleries will start to reopen including Kirkcudbright Galleries and Gracefield Arts Centre, Stranraer Museum, Dumfries Museum, Stewartry Museum and Annan Museum, the Robert Burns Centre, and the Tolbooth Museums in Kirkcudbright and Sanquhar.
Our cinema screenings will start at the Robert Burns Centre Film Theatre from Monday 17 May.
COVID-19 safety measures are in place at all our venues and visitors are encouraged to book their free slot before visiting.
