Dalbeattie Cat Has Got The Cream

One of the famous Dalbeattie civic cats has made a return to the island in the pond at Colliston Park in the town after a 24 year absence.

After being found abandoned in a shed at the old Edingham munitions factory, damaged and covered in dust the original big cat – part of the old civic island display last seen on display back in 1992 has been lovingly restored back to health and given a modern look by the Dalbeattie Men’s Shed team.

.One of the men from the local community Men’s Shed group stated “The second cat was damaged beyond repair ,we picked the least damaged one of the two to make a new mold, The cat is fully rewired and illuminates at night, just like it would of done back in the day when it was originally part of the Blackpool illuminations.”

The cats plus a  few other old favourites from the old Blackpool Illuminations  that were used during civic week were found up at Edingham,

the men are looking to restore these in time for the 10th Aniversary of the “Civic Daze” committee next year.

Dalbeattie Community Council and all the local people and visitors who will now be able to get years of pleasure seeing the cat  would like to thank the Men’s shed for all the help hard work restoring the cat.
