The Devil’s Porridge Museum Seeks to Attract Group Visitors to Eastriggs

The Devil’s Porridge Museum in Eastriggs hopes to attract more visitors by tapping into group tourism in both the UK and overseas. The museum welcomes over 19,000 visitors each year and is already becoming a feature for British tour operators, looking for something different to add into their tour schedules.

Lynda McDairmant, of Tell Tale Marketing hired by The Devil’s Porridge to advise and help drum up interest will attend a tourism event in Blackpool this weekend, which focuses on independent coach operators based in the UK. Lynda explains: “I have 25 years’ experience working with the travel industry and The Devil’s Porridge is a fascinating high-quality museum that will be popular with coach operators. The subject matter is of interest to many different types of groups and I am very excited to be representing them at the Coach Tourism Association event, the first time The Devil’s Porridge have taken part.”

Another first for The Devil’s Porridge will be VisitScotland EXPO, which is the only travel trade fair in the UK which exclusively promotes Scotland and involves tourism decision makers from all over the world. Lynda is preparing the team for their inaugural attendance: “I will be making sure that The Devil’s Porridge know exactly how to approach this specialist industry to make the most of their efforts and I will be on a nearby stand at the show, representing Visit South West Scotland.” The museum’s participation in Expo is only possible through funding from Dumfries and Galloway Council.

This year has significant importance to The Devil’s Porridge, being the centenary of the end of World War One and commemoration of women receiving the right to vote, which was celebrated recently. A new exhibition at the museum tells the story from the perspective of local women who did their bit to influence change.

While attending the Coach Tourism event, Lynda will describe this new exhibition and a soon to be launched exhibition, which as a first of its kind will be a popular draw.  This latest exhibition, supported by Magnox Socio-Economic Fund will be operational at a launch event next Tuesday.
