D&G Council Cleaners And Caterers Up For Award

The Council’s Building Cleaning and Catering Services teams have been shortlisted for the APSE Performance Networks service awards to be announced on 1 December:

• Most improved performer – Building Cleaning
• Most improved performer – Catering Services

The Catering Service developed action plans in units with inefficiencies, introduced technology in primary schools, launched working groups, and actively sought feedback. The service also created enhanced reporting systems for income, uptake, and absences.

The Building Cleaning teams employed effective staffing complements, verified that all risk assessments are complete, and ensured that all chemicals are in compliance with COSHH regulations. Additionally, effective communications were conducted through the ‘Find it Clean, Keep it Clean’ campaign. This included video and customer satisfaction surveys, and ‘Team Plan’ flyers distributed to frontline staff.

The APSE (Association for Public Sector Excellence) awards are designed to recognise excellence in local government services. They are open to all local authorities and their public sector partners. The awards highlight how councils are embracing change, innovation, and best-practice to continually offer outstanding services.

Councillor Katie Hagmaan, Chair of the Economy and Resources committee, said: “I am delighted that the teams have been shortlisted for two awards. This is an outstanding achievement and acknowledges both teams’ dedication and hard work.”
Councillor Sean Marshall, Vice Chair, said: “My congratulations go out to the teams that have been selected for two awards, it is thoroughly deserved and we wish them the best of luck in the finals.”
