D&G Health Professionals Are Finalists In National Awards

TWO health professionals from NHS Dumfries and Galloway are finalists in this year’s Scottish Health Awards, the annual celebration of the hard work and dedication of people working in healthcare across the country.

Dr Andrew Eccleston and Nurse Jenny Manson have been nominated and will be assessed by a panel of NHS Scotland representatives and Scottish Government officials.

Dr Eccleston was nominated by the mother of a 9-year-old girl, who he has treated since she was born with complex needs. Thanks to his unstinting efforts, her quality of life was improved.

Last year, he gained approval for a drug that extended her life by a few precious months, reducing her suffering and giving her more time with her family.

Meanwhile, Jenny Mason has been involved in delivering end of life care to two children who died and is currently supporting at least one other family with a child with declining health.

It was noted that Jenny has demonstrated time and time again that she always puts her patients and their families first.

Jeff Ace, Chief Executive of NHS Dumfries and Galloway, said: “In a year when staff across our health and social care settings have been rising to the many challenges of dealing with COVID-19, there has never been a better time to recognise and reward them for their outstanding efforts, day-in and day-out.
“Both members of staff should be extremely proud of their achievements and for this amazing recognition.”

It is expected the overall winners will be announced on 9 December at the virtual ceremony which can be viewed online
