DGRI WARD 16 REMAINS CLOSED DUE TO POSSIBLE NOROVIRUS OUTBREAK

Ward 16 remains closed to new admissions, transfers and routine visiting due to a number of patients experiencing symptoms of diarrhoea and nausea, clinically consistent with Norovirus infection.

Elaine Ross, Infection Control Manager, said:
“We can confirm that norovirus is circulating in the community. This particular strain of the virus appears to have less vomiting associated with it though cramping abdominal pains and nausea appear to be a feature. We would urge anyone with suspected symptoms to stay at home for at least 48 hours following their last symptom, drink lots of fluid and pay particular attention to hand hygiene with soap and water”

If you or someone you have had contact with, has experienced symptoms of diarrhoea or nausea please allow at least 48 hours since your last symptom before visiting the hospital as it is still possible to transmit the infection even though apparently well.
