Originally from Twynholm, twins Elizabeth Scott and James Callander (now Gatehouse and Dumfries respectively) have both been selected as Technical Officials for the track and field athletics at Hampden Park this July. Liz’s daughter Jane and Jim’s son Iain are both Clydesiders, Jane at the triathlon and Iain at the hockey events.

James will be the Track Referee at the athletics competition at Hampden, overseeing the track events and ensuring they run smoothly while Liz will be a Chief Field Judge, managing a team of Field Judges in the delivery of some of the field events. Both have been involved in athletics for over 20 years and are Scottish Athletics Officials, regularly traveling the UK to officiate at athletics meetings from grassroots to international level. Both were at the Olympic Games in London, James as a track official (which included managing the men’s 100m final!) and Liz as a Gamesmaker in International Federation Services at the Athletics, looking after the IAAF President and council members at the Olympic Stadium.

Jane’s Clydesider role is as Athlete Services Team Leader at the triathlon in Strathclyde Park. This will involve looking after the Athlete’s Lounge at the venue, working with athletes, coaches and their team staff to assist in their final pre competition preparations as well as working with the Technical Officials to ensure athlete equipment is checked prior to competition. Jane has been involved with triathletes over the past year as a massage therapist outside her day job as National Development Manager for triathlonscotland, providing maintenance massage to aid their recovery between sessions and while on warm weather training camps. She is looking forward to working with athletes at a major games and supporting them in their final pre-race preparations at the race venue.

Iain’s Clydesider role will be in the Sports Services team at the Hockey Training Venue, the location of which remains secret! This will involve directly liaising with players and officials and supporting them with whatever they need in their training up to and during the Games. Iain has been playing hockey at his local club in Dumfries for the past 10 years and has recently started umpiring and doing some assistant coaching as well as filling the role of Club Secretary on the committee. He is looking forward to the Games and getting involved with the athletes and teams on venue.
