Carson Pleased with Council Backing over Drummore Harbour Plans

Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Finlay Carson says he is delighted that Dumfries and Galloway Council have backed his calls for legal assistance to be given to Kirkmaiden Community Harbour Trust as they look to finalise their plans to take over the running of Drummore Harbour.

Mr Carson, who helped broker a meeting between Scottish Government land officials and the trust last month is pleased that plans have progressed very positively since the meeting.

A disclaimer notice was signed by the QLTR on 28 June, with the Harbour Trust set to hold an EGM on July 16, in order to discuss the best way forward.

Mr Carson has been at the forefront of helping the Trust realise their dream of running the harbour, which has been years in the making.

Commenting Finlay Carson MSP said: “I have been delighted to help the Kirkmaiden Harbour Trust drive forward their plans to make Drummore Harbour a community run asset, especially when they have been beset by so many delays and frustrations.
“The meeting I brokered recently with the trust and the Scottish Government was an extremely positive one, and laid out how they could end the delays in gaining ownership.
“We have reached a positive stage and now the council are willing to assist in the legalities of securing the trust for the harbour, we are hopefully about to reach a conclusion that suits everyone involved.
“The Kirkmaiden Community Harbour Trust have worked tirelessly to achieve their dream of owning and running Drummore Harbour and I am looking forward to attending their EGM on July 16th to discuss plans further.
“I hope that after years of frustration, we are at a stage now where the trust will have the harbour in their ownership sooner rather than later.”
Alex Peebles of the Kirkmaiden Community Harbour Trust added: “On behalf of Kirkmaiden Community Harbour Trust I want to thank Finlay Carson MSP for all his work on Drummore Harbour to date.
“I don’t think we would have got this far without his help and I know going forward we can count on his support.”
