Dumfries Learning Town Progress Up-Date

Progress on Dumfries Learning Town, including St Joseph’s College, North West Campus and The Bridge, will be considered by the Dumfries and Galloway Council’s – Children, Young People and Lifelong Learning (CYPLL) committee (12 December 2016).

Progress at St Joseph’s College includes:
• Establishing the site
• Constructing temporary accommodation
• Removing equipment
• Protecting historical features
• Erecting scaffolding
• Demolishing existing buildings

Progress at NW Campus includes:
• Establishing the site
• Erecting fencing
• Stripping topsoil

The target date for the start of works at The Bridge is March 2017. Meanwhile, progress includes:
• Formal acceptance of stage 1 submission
• Instruction to proceed to stage 2 submission

Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the CYPLL committee, said: Providing the best start in life for all our children is a priority for our Council. We want our young people to get the most from education. This means that we must create environments that stimulate and encourage learning. So, our Council has got more than £64m being invested in phase 1 of Dumfries Learning Town, which will offer first class, state-of-the art education facilities. Feedback from pupils tells us that they are eagerly looking forward to their new improved schools.”
