Police in Dumfries have received a report of a male who has attended at shops in Dumfries earlier today (October 22nd) in possession of a large amount of £20 notes. Unfortunately there is no description of the male at this time.
A police spokesperson said “It is believed that the male was trying a “ringing the changes” style fraud.
This is a distraction type crime when a person attempts to exhange one denomination for another during which they will skim a number of notes off the bundle. The shop staff will not normally notice until they cash up at the end of the day.
Please be aware of this crime and never exchange notes for anyone.”
