Local MSP Finlay Carson has welcomed changes to ScotRails Dumfries service, following feedback from commuters, business travellers and tourists.

From 10th December an extra five services per day in each direction between Dumfries and Carlisle, close to an hourly service all day, which will provide for an extra 1,200 seats.

There will also be one additional morning and evening Dumfries – Glasgow service providing for an extra 300 seats.

Commenting, Galloway and West Dumfries MSP, Finlay Carson said:

“I welcome today’s announcement from ScotRail to provide a more regular service to Dumfries, which will benefit the Dumfries and Galloway region.
“However, it is important our region has as equitable and reliable source of train services similar to that of the rest of Scotland; today’s announcement is welcomed progress.
“ScotRail must now improve the Stranraer services which is a vital link for our region’s tourist industry, as well as for ordinary commuters.
“To show their serious commitment to train services in South-West Scotland, ScotRail  should join me in advocating for the Stranraer station to be relocated closer to the town,  as well as promising to increase the daily service it currently provides.”
