Local charity, Dumfriesshire and Cumbria greyhound rescue have reached a milestone in it’s short history by finding a home for it’s 1000th ex- racing greyhound.
The charity was inaugurated in early 2002 and since then, has been extremely active in promoting greyhounds as family pets purely by the actions of it’s volunteers. A few years ago, the then Dumfriesshire greyhound rescue was re-named dumfriesshire and cumbria greyhound rescue due to the many supporters in Cumbria who were interested in the on-going work. The 1000th greyhound was called Fantasy (now called nyla – it was part of her racing name),Was adopted by peter and Jackie bacci of Dumfries who lost their own greyhound a few weeks ago. Jackie is a formidable Supporter of DGCR and during a recent fundraising campaign by the charity (1000 for a 1000), she cycled 1000 Kilometres on an excercise
bike and swam 1000 lengths of the DG1 swimming pool in Dumfries, raising an incredible £1000 herself!
Graham Hill a founder member of the charity and who is co-ordinating the publicity for this achievement said, “Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would
Have reached this milestone so early in our existence! The committee of greyhound rescue extends it’s gratitude to all our many volunteers
and supporters throughout Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria for their committment in achieving this magnificent goal and of course to all those happy families that have an adopted greyhound”
