Dumfries and Galloway’s Environmental Health Team – Best Performers in the UK

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Environmental Health team have come top to win the best UK performer in the Environmental Health category at the Association for Public Service Excellence awards 2017.

The awards compare performance statistics and service costs from local authorities across the UK to establish the best performing services. Our team’s award covers services including food safety enforcement, pest control and control of stray dogs, public health, private water supplies, workplace health and safety, air pollution and environmental protection.

APSE Chief Executive Paul O’Brien said, “The winners and finalists of these awards are stunning examples of what local government is capable of achieving. That is not to say austerity is not hitting councils hard because it is, however these winners and finalists are proof that in spite of the challenges -local councils are using innovation and efficiency to continue to deliver superb local services”
Dumfries and Galloway Councillor, Archie Dryburgh, Chair of APSE commented: “I am delighted, as Chair of APSE, that our own Environmental Health Team from Dumfries and Galloway has come top in these awards and I’d like to congratulate the team for all their hard work.”
Elaine Murray said: “This shows that our Environmental Health Team has gone above and beyond their normal duties. They have looked at the FSS Audit and taken on board any improvements they could make, going beyond their normal remit to make further improvements where they have seen opportunities. I’d like to add my congratulations to the team for a job well done.”
