Glaswegian Band ‘Cloaks’ Film Latest Video At Theatre Royal

Up and coming Glasgow-based guitar band Cloaks have released a new single, accompanied by a video filmed at Scotland’s oldest working theatre The Theatre Royal, Dumfries.

The new track ‘Headhunter’ premiered on BBC Radio Scotland’s Billy Sloan Show last weekend, where influential veteran music journalist Billy Sloan commented ‘they might just be my new favourite band’. Headhunter was independently released on Friday 15th December, and is scheduled to receive another play on the Billy Sloan Show this weekend, alongside tracks by Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher.

The video accompanying the release was filmed at the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, notable for being the oldest working theatre in Scotland, with strong associations with the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns and Peter Pan author J M Barrie.

The band formed in 2020 through a shared passion for music and sound, with four of the five band members meeting while studying Audio Engineering at Riverside Music College, Glasgow. That solid grounding in music production and sound composition gives Cloaks a sophisticated and confident contemporary indie rock sound, and one that’s technically accomplished.

Cloaks play regularly in King Tuts in Glasgow and 2024 gig dates will be announced soon. The band have a growing fan base, including influential names such as renowned Scottish actor Robert Carlyle.

Vocalist Thomas Trainer said:

“We’re hugely grateful to the Theatre Royal. It was a privilege to film our first video in such a historic venue, and amazing to think about all the people who have performed on this stage over centuries.”

Drummer Lewis Findlay, who has family connections in Dumfries, said:

“Headhunter is our most industry aligned project yet. Right from the start the song grabs your attention and makes you want to keep listening, and a fast quick-cutting music video matches the pace of the song. We are thrilled with the reception and support the track has received so far.”

Cloaks’ five song EP ‘The 8th Floor’ was independently released in November 2022, with ‘Meaning of Life’ released in October 2023. Follow up single ‘Headhunter’ is now available to stream now on all music platforms.
