GLOBE INN, DUMFRIES GETS PRAISE FROM MARGARET FERRIER, MP

 

Margaret Ferrier, MP for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, visited the Globe Inn on the High Street on Saturday to hear some historical information about Robert Burns and his visits to the Globe Inn.

Ms Ferrier, who is a member of Alloway Burns club, was was met by Jane Brown, manageress of the Globe Inn and also immediate past President of the Robert Burns World Federation.

Ms Brown guided Ms Ferrier MP and Emma Harper, who will be the next president of Dumfries Ladies Burns Club #1, through the various historic rooms of the 400 year old public house, while explaining key historical moments in Robert Burns life at the time he frequented the Globe Inn.

Ms Ferrier said “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Robert Burns’ favourite ‘Howff’. I was thoroughly impressed with the detailed knowledge that Jane presented. She is an asset to the world of Robert Burns and has now inspired me to read more about his life and work”.

Ms Harper said “It was really great to meet up with Margaret again and welcome her to Dumfries to hear Jane Brown relate her marvellous knowledge of Burns. I look forward to inviting Margaret to recite at future events once I take office as ladies club president”.

Margaret, Jane and Emma exchanged much mirth and clatter while Jane told the Globe Inn’s and Dumfries’ stories from 1796.
