Guid Nychburris Festival Association AGM Announced

The 2018 AGM of the Guid Nychburris Festival Association (GNFA) will take place on Tuesday 9th October in the Municipal Chambers Dumfries at 7pm where a warm welcome is extended to all.

GNFA chairman John Caskie MBE will preside over the meeting which will hear reports from the representatives of the Dumfries Cornets Club and Queen of the South Association as well as the various subcommittee convenors on the 2018 festival. John Caskie will also deliver his annual report with an overview of the festival in June this year, where Cornet Finlay Miller and his Lass Ellen Bell led the cavalcade for the annual ‘riding of the marches’ and when Dumfries Academy pupil Courtney Garton was crowned 2018 Queen of the South.

The GNFA are, as always, looking for new people to come on board their committee and encourage anyone with an interest in supporting and joining the GNFA to attend the AGM. The meeting will also offer the opportunity to the Dumfries public to attend and offer their views on the Guid Nychburris festival past and in the future.

Preparations are currently underway for the 2019 Guid Nychburris with sub committee’s looking at areas to reduce event costs, while the full committee are engaging in a fundraising programme to both promote Guid Nychburris and increase revenue for the continuance of the popular festival now in its 87th year.

In promoting the 2018 AGM, John highlighted that some of the committee members are standing down for personal reasons, new office-bearers are being appointed to Dumfries Cornets Club roles and the GNFA are hoping to appoint a new treasurer (at the AGM), he added that it is very important that these positions are filled and filled with people who have an interest in the Association as a whole.

Any one who would like to discuss, prior to the AGM, the possibility of joining the committee or any of the GNFA sub-committees can contact John direct or any of the other members of the GNFA.

The October draw for the Guid Nychburris 50/50 Monthly Draw will also take place during the AGM.
