HARPER SUPPORTS NEW GYM AS PART OF SOCIAL PRESCRIBING

Local MSP for South Scotland Emma Harper visited Rebuild Body and Mind Gym on Monday 8th January 2018 on their official opening.

Scott Manson and Karli Scambler, who are both veterans of the armed forces, are qualified in exercise referral. They are able to offer individualised person centred support for persons with physical and mental health needs. The gym is fully accessible with the space, equipment and shower facilities which can accommodate persons with mobility difficulties as well as wheelchair users.

Rebuild offers personal exercise packages on a one to one basis or in small groups in a safe environment where clients are able to be supported so they can focus on prescribed rehabilitation and feel at ease. Scott and Karli are also able to provide sports massage and nutritional advice.

Commenting on the visit, Emma said:

“Scott and Karli have an aim being to provide exercise, recovery and rehabilitation as part of social prescribing. I support their goals and encourage people to engage so that Scott and Karli can share their knowledge and skills to help improve the health and wellbeing of many people who have said they don’t feel comfortable, for whatever reason, going to a gym. They offer a unique personalised supportive experience.
Emma added, “I was able to directly observe and hear about the great effort they have put into creating a high quality, well equipped and modern facility. They have chosen to locate their business in the beautiful grounds of the Crichton Business Park, which has plenty of surrounding open space which further also can contribute to the wellbeing of individuals.
“I would encourage everyone to access the Rebuild Body and Mind Facebook page for updates, special incentives and offers and follow the progress of Rebuild.

“As a member of the Health & Sport Committee, I am pleased to see a new small, local business starting up to promote and encourage the uptake of exercise including as part of socially prescribed care with the aim to benefit physical and mental health.

“I wish Scott and Karli every success with their new business, and I look forward to visiting again and checking in on their progress.”

Scott and Karli both said:

“We both understand what it’s like to train in a facility with others around and sometimes the feelings of people, who have medical conditions, must be taken in to consideration. We want to offer a safe place for people to feel comfortable and valued. We work extremely hard with our clients to help them achieve their goals in the long term, avoid crash diet fads and the negative effects crash diets can have on daily life, mental state and overall wellbeing. We can help advise, support and assist with choosing a healthy balanced diet and encourage people to stay active. The overall aim is support for longer term best outcome.
