Have Your Say On New Signage For Kirkconnel & Kelloholm

The people of Kirkconnel and Kelloholm are being asked for their opinion on a unique project that will provide bespoke signage for the village. To allow local people to have their say, they have the opportunity to vote for their preferred sign design between Friday 24 November and Monday 4 December.

The Upper Nithsdale Regeneration Programme includes a funding allocation to develop new gateway signage in Upper Nithsdale at Kelloholm and Kirkconnel, Sanquhar and Wanlockhead. This idea was proposed to celebrate the heritage and raise the profile of the area and hopefully boost the visitor economy.

Display boards presenting the sign ideas, their proposed locations and ballot papers can be found at the following locations:

• Hillview Leisure Centre, Kirkland Drive, Kelloholm
• Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society, 40a Main St, Kirkconnel
• Mill Hill Centre, Corsrig Crescent, Kelloholm
• Kirkconnel Resource Centre, Main St, Kirkconnel
• Building Healthy Communities office, Nith Buildings, Kelloholm

If you are 16 and over, complete a ballot paper by putting a cross in the box next to your choice and return the completed paper to either Hillview Leisure Centre, Kirkconnel Parish Heritage Society, by email to [email protected] or by post to K&K Sign Project, 378 Leith Walk, Edinburgh, EH7 4PE.

The people of the villages will be able to express their interest in the heritage of the village and its importance to them and their families by viewing and having a say in which of the three proposed sign designs they prefer.

Chairman of the Nithsdale Area Committee, Ronnie Nicholson said, “This is a great opportunity for the community of Kirkconnel and Kelloholm to build a unique branding for their own town, one that means something to local people. These signs will celebrate the heritage of the town but also results in town signage that local people can be proud of. I hope that the people within the community take this opportunity to vote for the signs that they want.”
